Solar prominences

An animation of solar prominence taken between 16:16 and 16:33 on 22/06/2022.

This image shows a loop prominence forming on the Sun in just a few minutes. I was pretty lucky to capture it especially as I didn’t notice it had happened until I looked at the results later. Taken with a Coronado PST and ZWO ASI 290MM.

Prominences May 2021

Sharpen and adjust brightness etc in Registax then open solar disc as base layer in Paint.net. Open prominence image as new layer. Now prominence is the current layer set properties blend mode to difference. Drag to align the images and merge layer down.

Prominences 2020

All taken with the ZWO ASI 290MM, Coranado PST and x2 Barlow lens. One exposure for the prominence and a different shorter exposure for the disk. Processed as layers in Paint Shop Pro and then combined using the difference option which means the disk ends up as a negative image .
